Raleigh Greenway Sewer Riser Murals

The City of Raleigh seeks two artists or artist teams to transform existing sewer risers into public artwork along the Capital Area Greenway. Each selected artist or team will be assigned up to five risers within a designated section of the trail to prime and paint. The project aims to make everyday walks, runs, and bike rides more engaging by introducing artwork across multiple locations. Artists should consider how their designs connect across the assigned risers, creating a shared narrative or exploring a theme across several surfaces. Artwork themes will be informed by community engagement. Earlier public feedback expressed interest in nature, native plants and wildlife, cultural histories, and storytelling. Final locations will be assigned by Raleigh Arts. Artists must use long-lasting paint and should consider anti-graffiti and/or UV-resistant topcoats to improve durability.
