About This Call

The Raleigh Fine Arts Society invites North Carolina artists to submit work for the 2020 North Carolina Annual Artists Exhibition. Applicants must be North Carolina residents age 18 and over. Students enrolled in out-of-state institutions are eligible if classified as North Carolina residents with a valid state address. Artists may submit up to two original works created after January 1, 2018. Works must not exceed 72 inches in any dimension and weigh no more than 80 pounds. All artwork must be available for purchase, with RFAS receiving a 30% commission.

The entry fee is $35 for up to two works and is nonrefundable. Entries must be submitted online through CaFÉ and finalized by 5:00 p.m. on January 8, 2020. For two-dimensional work, submit one image per piece. For three-dimensional work, submit up to three images showing different views with the primary image identified. Image files may not exceed 5MB, with a minimum of 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi. Images must be correctly oriented and cropped to show only the artwork without framing or empty space.

The exhibition will be held at CAM Raleigh for three months, opening March 8, 2020 and closing June 14, 2020. Juror Nat Trotman, Curator of Performance and Media at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, will select work emphasizing conceptual depth and artistic ideas. Awards include two $1,000 Juror's Choice Awards, one $1,000 Betsy Sykes Award, and a $3,000 Joyce Wilkins Pope Grand Prize. A catalogue will be published featuring selected artists with up to 200 words of artist and biographical statements. Selected works must be delivered ready to install by the opening date. Two-dimensional work must be properly framed with conservation or museum glass and wired to hang. Three-dimensional work does not require display stands. Artists working in performance and media must provide display guidelines, technical specifications, and their own equipment for the exhibition duration.
