About This Call
Raining Cats and Dogs is an all-mediums competition exhibition presented by The Dairy Arts Center together with the Humane Society of Boulder Valley. The exhibition is about domestic companion animals and is open to living artists of all ages who live within the United States.
All visual art mediums are acceptable for entry. Art related to domestic pets may take any form—portrait art, protest art, cartoons, classical representational art, or cutting-edge work using unexpected methods and materials. The exhibition will display original art that is cheerful, poignant, angry, funny, or any other expression about domestic pets, their relationships to mankind, to each other, and to the world. Jewelry artists will be required to provide their own secure display materials if their work is accepted for the exhibit.
Entry fee is $25 per application (non-refundable). Each application may consist of 1 to 6 images and may include works in a series. Cash and other prizes will be awarded. Jurors are members of the Dairy's Visual Art Jury, an eleven-member committee of artists, curators, university faculty, and art collectors. All work may be offered for sale; The Dairy Arts Center retains a 40% commission on artwork sold. Application deadline: June 3, 2016. Juror selection: June 7, 2016. Artist notification: June 10, 2016. Exhibition dates: July 8–July 29, 2016. Opening event with award presentation and reception: Thursday, July 14, 2016, 4:00 pm–7:00 pm. Art delivery to Dairy Arts Center: July 5, 2016, 8:30 am–3:00 pm. Shipped art must be received by July 5, 2016. Artist pickup: Monday, August 1, 2016, 8:30 am–5:30 pm. Shipped art will be packed for return shipping pickup no later than August 3, 2016. Shipped art must be shipped at the artist's expense with return shipping labels including insurance and carrier pickup fees. Reusable wrapping materials, cartons, or crates are accepted; Styrofoam peanuts are not permitted.
