About This Call

The City of Bremerton seeks an artist to create a site-specific public artwork for the 4th Street façade of the City's parking garage at 405 Washington Avenue. The artwork should be a creative solution to bring together several murals depicting the rich African American history of Bremerton with a focus on Quincy Jones and music into a cohesive installation. The piece will serve as a capstone to Quincy Square.

The installation will be located on the 4th Street facing exterior of the parking garage at 405 Washington Ave. Artists may consider the horizontal facades between garage levels (approximately 1,600 square feet). The piece may be attached to the horizontal facades and may cover up to 30% of the open space between floors. The installation will be outside and exposed to all elements including UV rays, rain, freezing temperatures, heat, salt spray, and bird pressure. Materials that may be considered include metal, signage materials, or other materials appropriate for outdoor installation. Artists are encouraged to visit the site to understand the space and their needs for the installation.

The total budget for the project is $32,000 inclusive of all work including artists' fees, final design, wall preparation, insurance costs, studio and project administration, travel, fabrication, all materials, installation, equipment, required documentation, and structural engineering if needed. The selection committee's goals for the installation include tying together murals on other garage surfaces to create a cohesive installation, honoring Quincy Jones' legacy and depicting how he inspired the world, depicting the African American history of Bremerton, providing an interactive experience and/or engaging the community, and serving as a cultural cornerstone in Bremerton. The final description of services and items to be provided is subject to negotiations with the selected artist, with final approval to be determined by the City of Bremerton.
