About This Call

Questioning Beauty: Idea vs. Quality is an all-media national juried art show held at the Cade Art Gallery, John A. Cade Center for Fine Arts at Anne Arundel Community College, 101 College Parkway, Arnold, MD 21012. The exhibition runs November 18-December 16, 2015. The theme explores whether beauty is objective or subjective, and whether idea and physical quality must coexist to define something as beautiful.

Artists over the age of 18 working in all media are eligible to apply. Submit up to six digital files (images, audio, video, or a combination) along with a $30 entry fee. You may include a 1-2 paragraph statement describing how each piece fits the theme or outlining a proposed installation. All entry materials must be received by October 11, 2015. Notifications will be emailed October 16, 2015. Delivery dates for accepted work are November 9-10, 2015.

All accepted work must be ready to hang or display. Two-dimensional work must have braided picture wire on the back; fragile media should be under Plexiglas. Installation art must be prepared by the artist or include easy-to-follow instructions. The gallery has a flat screen video and access to video equipment including a projector. All works are insured against physical damage or loss from receipt through designated pickup time. If art is shipped to the gallery, the artist is responsible for shipping costs both to and from the gallery. The juror is David Gariff, senior lecturer at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, and adjunct professor of art history at the Catholic University of America. A public reception and juror's talk will be held Wednesday, November 18, 6-8 pm. Artwork pickup is December 17-18, 2015.
