About This Call
The Pittsburgh Watercolor Society (PWS) Aqueous Open 2022 International Exhibition is a juried exhibit for artists using water-based media on paper. The 77th Aqueous will be presented in person at the Stifel Fine Arts Center, Ogleby Institute in Wheeling, West Virginia, and online on the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society website. This year's juror is Barbara Jones, former Chief Curator of The Westmoreland Museum of American Art.
The exhibition is open to artists 18 or older working primarily with water-based media on a paper surface. Eligible mediums include watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache, and egg tempera. Work must be completed within the last two years and not previously shown in a PWS exhibit. Artists may submit two works for jury consideration; only one can be chosen. Work must be framed and ready for hanging, with matting in white, off-white, or light gray, and frames in simple black. Minimum image size is 12" x 12"; maximum framed size is 40" x 40". All work must be for sale at current market value.
Entry fee is $45 for non-members and $30 for Pittsburgh Watercolor Society members. The registration deadline is July 15, 2022 at midnight. Acceptance notifications will be sent the week of July 31. Shipped work must arrive by August 20, 2022; hand delivery is available August 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The exhibition runs September 8 - October 29, 2022, with an opening reception on September 11 from 1-4 p.m. Awards total over $5,000 in cash and prizes, with a Best of Show award of $1,200. Artists receive 60% of sale price, the Stifel Fine Arts Center receives 30%, and PWS receives 10%.
