About This Call
Push & Pull is an exhibition of handmade prints running October 7 – November 12, 2022. The exhibition asks artists to think about internal and external tensions of the world, exploring themes of polarization and division. The theme can be interpreted loosely—artists are encouraged to turn ideas into images and make it their own.
All entries must be handmade prints using traditional printmaking and/or photographic processes created in the last 5 years. 3D and experimental work is encouraged. Accepted processes include silkscreen, letterpress, calligraphy, etching, woodcut, lithography, linocut, drypoint, mezzotint, monoprint, polymer plates, silver gelatin prints, photopolymer gravure, copperplate gravure, cyanotype, vandyke, gumbichromate, palladium, platinum, carbon, salt, wet plate, chemigram, lumen, argrotype, oilprint, chlorophyll, instant transfers, and lifts. Digital photographic images can be used in combination with other processes, but straight digital prints will not be accepted. Work needs to arrive at the gallery ready to hang; framing is not required, and magnets, clips, and other methods can be used. Artists may submit 5–10 images. Entry fee is $35 for 5 images, $5 for each additional image. Sliding scale discounts are available with coupon codes disc15 ($15 for 5 images) or disc25 ($25 for 5 images).
Juror: Frank Rose, director and owner of Hecho a Mano Gallery on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, NM. Awards: First Place $300, Second Place $200, Third Place $100. Deadline for submitted work: September 6 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Notification via email: September 12. Work due at Light Art Space: September 29. Reception: Friday, October 7, 5–7 p.m. with juror talk 5:30–6:30 p.m. Sales are encouraged; Light Art Space retains a 50% commission on any artwork sold. All artwork will remain in the exhibition through November 13. Light Art Space invites all to submit, including Black, Latina, Indigenous people, and all self-identifying people of color.
