About This Call
The City of Florence Public Art Committee is seeking artists to create a large building mural on the eastern wall of the Central Lincoln PUD building, located at the corner of Highway 126 and Quince Street. The wall measures 125 feet by 17 feet and features a smooth cement neutral colored surface. This is a two-stage process: Stage one requires artists to submit a portfolio of large-scale murals or relevant installations. The PAC will select up to three artists and award each a $750 stipend to submit 1-3 sketch/renderings of their proposed design. Following a second review, a final artist will be selected.
Artists must be over 18 years old with mural experience. Designs should be visible from a distance and engaging from multiple angles. Submissions must not include religious references, symbols, political material, copyrighted material, or intellectual property breaches. The selected artist will work with the PAC to adjust the design if necessary and must provide a comprehensive maintenance plan. The City will prepare the surface, handle landscaping removal, and coordinate cleaning and start dates. The artist is guaranteed a minimum fee of $30,000, with installation, landscaping, lighting, maintenance, and permitting covered separately by the PAC.
The application deadline is September 7, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Artists must submit 20 images via CallForEntry.org. The anticipated announcement of the selected artist is September 17, 2018, with installation expected to be completed by early summer 2019. The selected artist is expected to participate in an unveiling celebration and help document the project process.
