About This Call
Colorado State University's Department of Art and Art History is requesting proposals for public works that engage diverse and challenging conversations regarding social, political, socio-economic, race/ethnicity, gender/sexual orientation and global/geo-local perspectives. This national call is for the inaugural public work in a series of artworks to be applied and installed on the building façades of the Visual Arts Building at the main campus in Fort Collins, Colorado. The committees are interested in works that engage students, faculty, staff, and the community at large. The selected works should be site responsive and easily maintainable throughout the exhibitions' timeframe, with the mural created with the intent to last and be displayed a minimum of three to five years.
The wall dimensions are approximately 8 feet high by 25 feet wide, with proposed dimensions potentially smaller than the maximum. Artists are encouraged to present proposals involving traditional mural designs as well as multi-dimensional, digital, and non-traditional formats or materials. The mural design must be applicable and well-structured for a two-dimensional wall structure and suited for a three to five-year exhibition. The overall project budget is $8,000–$10,000, accounting for all anticipated costs regarding travel, lodging, per diem, supplies, and artist honorarium.
Submission is open to any artist or group of artists able to work legally in the United States and eighteen years of age or older. Applications are accepted through the CaFÉ online platform only. The $25.00 application fee is required. Required documents include curriculum vitae/resume, links to virtual portfolios with mural-related work, artist conceptual statement, detailed budget proposal, maintenance plan, and three professional references. The entry deadline is August 15, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Selected artists will be notified August 31, 2020, with installation scheduled September 2020 through May 2021.
