About This Call
The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County is soliciting Statements of Qualifications from interested and qualified artists to design, fabricate and install artwork(s) at Southeast Davidson Public Library and Regional Community Center central lobby before March 2014.
The total artwork budget is $150,000 for one artwork or multiple related artworks, including artists' fees, overhead and operating costs, fabrication costs, project-related travel, installation costs, site preparation costs, insurance, contingency, and any other artist-related costs. This RFQ will result in a short list of approximately three to five semi-finalists, who will each receive a $2,000 commission for travel expenses to visit Nashville, learn about the community and artwork location, develop a concept proposal, and present the proposal to the selection committee.
Eligibility is open to professional artists and artist teams residing in the United States. A professional artist must be at least 18 years of age with at least two years of visual art exhibition history or at least two years of commissioned visual or public art. Artist teams may consist of two or more professional artists working collaboratively or a collaborative team led by a professional artist. Architects, landscape architects and other design professionals are not considered professional artists unless they meet the criteria. Exhibitions, commissions or public art created during undergraduate education do not count towards eligibility requirements.
The art elements will be located within the interior space of the central lobby, which serves as the main point of entrance and shared space between the library and community center. Semi-finalist artists are encouraged to create artworks that reflect the vibrancy and diversity of the Antioch community, resonate with people of all ages and backgrounds, contribute to a positive and stimulating environment, create an inviting and visually engaging space, and become a symbol or icon for the Antioch neighborhood. Sustainable materials are encouraged.
Submissions must be received via callforentry.org by March 8, 2013 at 12:00 a.m. Mountain Standard Time (1:00 a.m. Central Standard Time) and include: a one-page letter of interest, up to six digital images of recent work, descriptive information for each image (title, media, dimensions, project budget, completion date, and 300-character project description), current résumé (not exceeding four pages or 2MB), and three references with contact information. Selection will be based on artistic merit, broad experience as a professional artist, experience applicable to the project, references regarding ability to perform according to schedule and budget, and expressed interest in and understanding of the project.
