About This Call

Nashville International Airport (BNA) and Arts at the Airport (AaA) invite artists to submit proposals for the design and installation of two indoor murals located adjacent to one another on the south end of Concourse D in the departure gate area of Southwest Airlines. Area 1 measures 32 ft x 5 ft and Area 2 measures 29.5 ft x 5 ft. Both spaces are located 4 feet from the ground up with seating in front of Area 1. The murals will be installed in June 2020 and are expected to remain in place for three to five years.

AaA is seeking original and engaging design concepts that strengthen the narrative about Nashville Airport, the city of Nashville, aviation and travel. Designs should promote the assets of Nashville and the airport, welcome travelers, create a sense of place, and provide a calming and engaging image in a busy environment. The murals can be vinyl, painted on canvas, or painted directly onto the wall. If painted directly on the wall, artists must use primer, high quality artist grade acrylic paint and final clear coat sealer. The artist and any assistants must comply with all BNA security regulations when working in the secure area.

Eligibility is limited to individual artists and artist teams from Nashville who have been invited by Arts at the Airport. The project budget is $16,000, which includes artist fee, all materials and installation. Installation must begin June 1, 2020 and be complete by June 19, 2020. Artist selection will be notified April 6, 2020. Required application materials include current resumé, brief biography, artist statement (1 page), images (minimum 7, maximum 10 with descriptions), and three professional references with names, addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses. Submit proposal by February 24, 2020. Contact Mary Grissim, Curator, at [email protected] for questions.
