About This Call

Adams County is seeking an artist to create two separate exterior installations for the Offices of the Coroner and Probation renovation project. Artwork will be installed on two entrance pillars, each 20' H, 6' W and 2' D. Pillars serve as entrance gateways and wayfinding signage for each separate office. Installations are cladding on pillars using mural work, metal cladding or other exterior-grade materials. Designs will be unique but will have a complementary look between the distinct concepts.

The art installations and gateway signage will emphasize the separate entries and provide a clear identity for each office and the work they perform. The Office of the Coroner is responsible for determining the manner and cause of death and conducting forensic investigations. The Office of Probation is committed to public safety and offender accountability through community-based supervision. Designs should consider the role each office has in the community, with inspiration drawn from patterns and abstract interpretations of physical and behavioral science. The selected artist is expected to attend 3-5 project team meetings and collaborate on technical requirements to ensure proper mounting and longevity. Artist will advise on signage and lighting for each pillar.

Application Requirements: Submit a one-page letter of interest, preliminary concept statement with a minimum of two images or concept sketches (rough sketches and digital renderings accepted), written description of your approach (no more than 1000 words), resume, and portfolio of 5-15 images of previous public art projects from the last five years. Selected finalists (2-4) will receive a $750 honorarium to develop a detailed proposal and participate in in-person interviews (October 18-22, 2021). This opportunity is open to artists in the regional surrounding area of Denver, Colorado. Estimated project timeline: Design and planning completion October 2021, construction start November 2021, construction completion March 2022, public art installation Spring 2022.
