About This Call
The Woodlands Arts Council is seeking artist designs for five art bike racks to be installed in The Woodlands, Texas. This is an open call for artists of all career stages, with international eligibility.
Entry fee is $40 for the first design and $5 per design for additional designs, with up to three designs allowed per location. Artists may submit up to five applications. Semi-finalists will receive a stipend. One finalist will be selected for each of the five locations to construct and install an art bike rack, receiving $6,000 total ($3,000 upon execution of Artist Agreement and $3,000 upon delivery and acceptance). Application deadline is April 18, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Semi-finalists will be notified by May 1, 2023, finalists by June 1, 2023, with delivery and installation to be completed by September 15, 2023.
Art bike racks must be constructed of durable materials designed to last a minimum of ten years with minimal maintenance, including iron, steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminum, bronze, natural stone, glass, HDPE plastic, fiberglass, concrete, wood, or combinations thereof. All designs must be family-appropriate, functional for locking bicycles using cable locks, chain locks, and U-locks, accommodate bicycles of different sizes, be free of sharp edges, and be surface-mounted with anchor bolts onto concrete or brick pavers. Artists are encouraged to work conceptually with their chosen site and the underwriter's vision. Applications must include an artist's statement of intent, proposed build plan, professional resume, three professional references, and four high-resolution design images (one mock-up preview in the chosen location, one front view, one detail view, and one additional view). Portfolio images of previously completed work are optional. Reference materials and site location details are available on The Woodlands Arts Council website.
