About This Call
The Napa Community Redevelopment Agency is inviting experienced artists or artist teams to submit qualifications for the creation of public artwork for Napa Riverfront Green, a new downtown park project. The park is currently in final design and will be constructed in late spring/early summer of 2011. All artists 18 years of age or older and residing in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington or Arizona are eligible to apply.
Napa Riverfront Green is a slightly less than one acre park west of Soscol Avenue and east of the Napa River bank in downtown Napa, extending from Third Street to the northern terminus of a future river trail. The park will include landscaping, seat walls, benches, trails, public art, an information kiosk, lighting and a memorial. At least one freestanding sculpture is envisioned within a seating area (approximately 15' long x 11' wide). Depending on budget, there will also be artist-made handrails in one or more areas of the park. The target budget for the artwork is $30,000 - $45,000. The selected artist or artist team will be responsible for design, fabrication, delivery, installation, appropriate engineering by a licensed engineer, applicable permits, artist's insurance and artist's travel expenses.
Submissions will be reviewed in two phases. Phase I: The Art Selection Jury will review submissions and select a maximum of 5 artists to be interviewed. Semi-finalists will receive an honorarium of $100 for the interview, plus a travel allowance of up to $250 for those more than 120 miles from Napa. Phase II: The selected artist will enter into an agreement to develop concept designs for a fee of $3,500.00. Submissions must include a one-page letter of interest, resume (not to exceed 3 pages), 10 images of past work, annotated image list with full descriptions, and three professional references with contact information. Artist interviews are scheduled for January 31 – February 4, 2011, with concept design completion in March 2011.
