About This Call
The City of Kissimmee, Kissimmee Utility Authority, and Toho Water Authority seek a public art sculpture to preserve and honor the memory of employees who have served these organizations. The current Employee Monument at City Hall has reached capacity. A new memorial piece will replace it, with the existing monument panels to be repurposed—potentially as a curved wall to focus attention on the sculpture, though other configurations are encouraged.
The artwork must be structurally sound and able to withstand outdoor exposure year-round in Kissimmee's subtropical climate, which features hot and humid conditions, intense sun, seasonal heavy rains, and hurricane-force winds. Durability, ability to unite the three entities, site appropriateness, and timeless design are primary selection criteria. The piece must avoid deterioration from rust and fading.
Artists may submit 1-5 sculpture applications as separate submissions. Each application requires a minimum of 1 image and a maximum of 6 images. Proposals should describe the artist's vision and how the work integrates with the repurposed panels. Height and width should be proportional to the designated site. The selected artist is responsible for providing the sculpture's weight and installation instructions, as well as transporting the artwork to the site on the specified date. Budget is approximately $45,000. The selection panel consists of 6 appointed members of the Kissimmee Memorial Committee.
