About This Call

The City of Lewisville is seeking artists to create a public art component for the soon-to-be-built Lewisville Multi-Generational Recreation Center. The new facility will cover approximately 90,000 square feet at the southwest corner of Corporate Drive and Valley Parkway in central Lewisville and will serve an age-diverse population with gymnasiums, an indoor walking track, classrooms, leisure space, an indoor aquatics facility, and related outdoor amenities. As required by Texas law, the public art must be physically incorporated into the structure rather than stand-alone pieces. The City seeks a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork appropriate for the diverse community that will use it, with consideration given to Lewisville's historical nature and the community's connection to its outdoor environment. Artists should demonstrate experience integrating artwork into building architecture. All media and materials are welcome, and the artwork must be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials suitable for public exposure.

Applicants must submit eight digital images of previously completed artworks, a résumé, and a statement of interest (no longer than 2,000 characters) via www.callforentry.org. Up to three semifinalists will be selected for interviews and will receive an honorarium of up to $1,000 to prepare and present a proposal in person. A final artist or artist team will be selected for the commission and will collaborate with City staff and the design team to finalize designs for installation. Teams may apply; submit a single résumé for the whole team with 1-2 pages per team member.

The budget for this commission is up to $240,000 USD, inclusive of all costs including design fee, consultation fees, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, travel, and contingency. The entry deadline is December 30, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. MST. This project is open internationally to all artists regardless of background or experience level; emerging artists are welcome to apply.
