Public Art Commission: Northeastern Junior College Applied Technology Campus

Northeastern Junior College is seeking qualifications from artists interested in creating interior public artworks for the new Applied Technology Campus building. The budget for this project is $90,000, with a submission deadline of August 23, 2024.

The Public Art Selection Committee is commissioning artwork for two interior locations. Location A is a ceiling-mounted artwork for the building's reception area and main entryway. The ceiling has been reinforced to accommodate artwork, with exposed ducts raised out of the way and pendant lighting placed outside the central ceiling area. The committee is particularly interested in kinetic artworks for this location. Location B is wall-mounted artwork for the engagement room, a non-programmatic space for students to gather and study. This artwork can be an extension of the ceiling artwork or separate; the committee is seeking the same artist for both locations. The selection committee will evaluate submissions based on artistic excellence, scale, material, form and content, appropriate relationship to site function, resistance to wear and vandalism, and ease of maintenance.

Applicants must submit 6-8 digital images of previously completed artworks (up to 2 may be videos), a current résumé, and a statement of interest of 250 words or less via the CaFÉ online platform. All applicants must be U.S. residents; artists from Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Kansas are encouraged to apply. Semifinalists will be invited to present final proposals in person and will receive a $1,000 honorarium. The building construction is scheduled for completion in March 2025, with anticipated artwork installation in Summer 2025 and student occupancy in August 2025.
