About This Call

Rowan University is constructing a new home for the Rowan College of Business, which will incorporate art as part of New Jersey's Arts Inclusion Program. The four-story, 96,500 sq. foot building includes common areas to encourage collaboration among students and business leaders, a "hatchery" where students can develop entrepreneurial ventures, and the Center for Business Professionalism.

The artwork will be created for an elliptical element located on the west side of the building, strategically positioned as a gateway to the University. The ellipse contains meeting rooms and is accessible from the main corridor, enclosed by a glass curtain wall. At night, the ellipse will serve as an iconic beacon at the building and a window into activities within the College of Business during the day. The artwork will be located on laminated glass panels attached to a steel framework that projects forward of the window curtain wall system, with lighting from between the curtain wall and steel framework to highlight the imagery.

Budget: $220,000, which includes costs for design, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, insurance, images of the entire process, and any other costs required to complete the project. Short-listed artists will be required to attend a site visit to meet the architect. Approximately one month after the site visit, short-listed artists will make a live 60-minute presentation of their design to the selection committee, including a PowerPoint presentation, material samples, timeline, and budget. The selection committee will choose one artist to receive the commission. Building completion date: September 2016. Work sample requirements: 4-6 images. National eligibility.
