About This Call
The Colorado Department of Revenue is commissioning a mural for a wall within the parking garage of a new facility on the Auraria Higher Education Center campus in downtown Denver. The wall is 52 feet long by 9 feet 4 inches high and will be visible to both garage users and pedestrians on 5th Street.
The mural should engage with the DOR services housed in the facility (Drivers License Office, Taxpayer Services, Lottery Claims, and Revenue Cashiers) and/or the outdoors of Colorado. The committee is also interested in engagement with the unique history and culture of Auraria Campus. The selection committee will evaluate submissions based on artistic excellence, scale, material, form and content, safety of materials, appropriate relationship to site function, resistance to wear and vandalism, ease of maintenance, and the artist's connection to Auraria Campus.
The budget is $23,000, which covers all costs including artist fee, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, travel, per diem, project documentation, and contingency. Applicants must submit 6-8 digital images of previously completed work, a current résumé, and a statement of interest (250 words or less) via the CaFÉ system. All applicants must be Colorado residents, with exceptions for artists affiliated with tribes with ties to Colorado lands. Semifinalists will be invited to present proposals in person and will receive a $1,000 stipend. The submission deadline is July 11, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. For questions, contact Ruth Wilson at [email protected] or 303-880-6671.
