About This Call
Colorado State University Pueblo is seeking qualifications from artists interested in creating exterior artwork for the Technology, Education & Engineering Building. The budget for this opportunity is $87,500, with a submission deadline of December 13, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MST.
The Public Art Selection Committee is looking to commission artwork for one to four exterior walls on the building's facade. The building has four large square-shaped walls; two face the courtyard and internal campus area, while two face the parking lot where many students enter. Each wall measures 29'-4" W x 27'-6" H with existing stucco surface. The committee is interested in large-scale murals or artworks that add color to the building's monochromatic appearance. Artworks are not limited to particular materials as long as they are applied to the exterior wall or walls. Thematically, the committee seeks work that connects to the programs within the building (engineering, civil engineering technology, construction management, education, and transportation) and the broader impact of industry and technology on the Pueblo community. Artworks referencing Pueblo's rich local history with industry are particularly encouraged. The Selection Committee will evaluate submissions based on artistic excellence, scale, material, form and content, resistance to wear and vandalism, and ease of maintenance.
Applicants must be Colorado residents. Exceptions are made for artists living outside Colorado if affiliated with a tribe with ties to the land that is currently Colorado. Submissions must include 6-8 digital images of previously completed artworks, a current résumé, and a statement of interest (250 words or less). All applications are submitted through the CaFÉ online platform with no application fee. Semifinalists will be invited to present final proposals in person and will receive a $1,000 honorarium. The selection committee will meet in January 2025, with artist presentations scheduled for February/March 2025. For questions, contact Ruth Wilson at 303-880-6671 or [email protected].
