About This Call
The Community College of Denver is seeking qualifications from artists interested in creating exterior artworks for the Boulder Creek Health and Science Building. The total funding available is up to $96,000. All costs associated with the commissioned public artworks, including artist fee, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, building or site modifications, travel, per diem expenses, project documentation, and contingency are covered by the budget.
The committee is looking for multiple artworks for two targeted exterior locations: the main entrance (approximately 1,200 SF total, split between east and north walls) and a large wall on the southeast side along Colfax Avenue abutting a light rail route (approximately 740 SF). Both locations feature prefinished formed metal wall panels prepped to receive vinyl graphics. The same artist may address both locations or two separate artists may be commissioned (one per location). Artists should consider anti-graffiti and longevity in their designs. The main entrance artwork should honor CCD's past, present, and future while reflecting Auraria campus's rich cultural history. The southeast wall artwork should address the healthcare programs housed within the building and create visibility of CCD's presence for those passing by vehicle, public transportation, or on foot. Selection criteria include artistic excellence, scale, material, form and content, appropriate relationship to site function, resistance to wear and vandalism, and ease of maintenance.
Applications must be submitted via CaFÉ™ by July 14, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT and include 6-8 digital images of previously completed artworks, a current résumé, and a statement of interest (250 words or less). Applicants must be Colorado residents; exceptions are made for artists affiliated with tribes with ties to Colorado land. The Art Selection Committee will review submissions and invite semifinalists to prepare and present final proposals in person for an honorarium of $1,000. Semifinalists will be notified in August 2025, with artist presentations scheduled for September 2025. Contact Ruth Wilson at 303-880-6671 or [email protected] for questions.
