About This Call

Colorado Creative Industries seeks to acquire public art through direct purchase of existing artwork for Trinidad State Junior College's Valley Campus in Alamosa, Colorado. TSJC is looking to acquire more than one artwork, and works under and up to the budget will be considered.

The Valley Campus is a commuter campus of approximately 600 students located in downtown Alamosa at 7,600 feet elevation in the San Luis Valley. The campus features hands-on programs including Nursing, Massage, Auto and Diesel Mechanics, Welding, and Aquaculics. The average student age is late 20s, representing a non-traditional student population. The region is surrounded by the San Juan Mountains to the west and the Sangre de Cristo Range to the east, with Great Sand Dunes National Park located 35 miles to the northeast.

Trinidad State Junior College is seeking multiple 2D artworks for its Valley Campus main building. Artworks of any 2D media will be considered, with a maximum dimension of 4' x 6'. The panel prefers to acquire more smaller works than large-scale pieces. The total budget for this project is $13,260, which covers all costs including artwork, transportation, installation, plaque, and documentation. Artists are asked to submit artworks for acquisition at or below this budget.

Selection criteria include: artist's location (preference given to local and regional artists from Alamosa and surrounding areas), thematic focus on the San Luis Valley with emphasis on regional landscape and history (indigenous and early settlers), artistic excellence, technical competence, suitability to site, scale, material, form and content, structural and surface integrity, accessibility, resistance to wear and vandalism, and ease of maintenance. Artwork must be designed and fabricated to be durable with low maintenance and low cost maintenance requirements.

Eligibility is limited to artists living in Colorado, with strong preference given to artists living in Southeastern Colorado, particularly in Alamosa. Applicants must submit 1-8 digital images of available artworks (up to three artworks total), a current résumé, a statement of interest in 250 words or less, and responses to specified questions through the CaFÉ online application system. There is no application fee. A Public Art Acquisition Committee will review submissions and make recommendations. Artists will be notified of decisions by September 2015. The committee may arrange site visits to see artwork before final selection. Final selection and purchase require approval from TSJC and Colorado Creative Industries' Council. Estimated installation is Fall 2015.
