About This Call
PROUD is an exhibition of visual art running from June 2-25, 2017, produced by The Studio Door. The exhibit is a precursor to San Diego's Pride celebrations held in July and is designed to celebrate LGBTQ artists in honor of the Stonewall Riots during National Pride Month. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) artists are encouraged to present contemporary works that celebrate the unique sense of pride that this diverse community has. The Studio Door is seeking artwork that expresses authentic viewpoints of the LGBTQ experience, with artists encouraged to submit meaningful works underscoring identity, lifestyle and diversification.
Accepted media includes fine art in the following categories: painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, assemblage, collage, mixed media, fiber art, artist book, ceramics, stoneware, stain glass, sculpture, and oversized jewelry that can be defined as fine art. The exhibition does not accept small jewelry, video, film, performance art, installation, or works requiring an external electrical source. Submissions must be the artist's original work. Two-dimensional work must not exceed 8 feet in height and 4 feet in width (including frame), and must arrive gallery ready with plexi only (no glass). Three-dimensional work must fit through an average doorway and not exceed 8 feet in height.
Entry consists of one to three submissions of images. The entry fee is $35 for the initial entry and $5 for each additional media submission (1 work = $35; 2 works = $40; 3 works = $45). The submission deadline is May 5, 2017 at 11:59 PM MDT. All submissions must be completed online through CAFÉ. Artists will be notified by May 12, 2017. The juror will select works for display at The Studio Door gallery in San Diego and/or the online gallery only. A Juror's Award ribbon and certificate will be presented to three works that express the most imaginative interpretation of the theme, with one work designated "Best in Show" and used as the cover of the exhibition catalog. All accepted works will be included in the national exhibition virtual catalog. Artists grant The Studio Door permission to photograph selected artwork and use images for marketing and publicity without compensation. For accepted gallery works, shipping must be received by May 26, 2017, with artwork shipped out on June 28, 2017. Artists are responsible for shipping costs. Hand-delivery is available May 27-28, 2017. Artwork may be picked up June 25, 2017 (4-5 PM) or June 27, 2017 during gallery hours. Sales split 60% to artist and 40% to The Studio Door, with payment mailed within 30 days after the show closes.
