About This Call
The Art in Public Places program seeks to diversify New Mexico's public art collection through the Large Scale Purchase Initiative. Since 1986, the program has placed more than 2,500 artworks across all 33 New Mexico counties. This initiative will purchase artwork from artists in all stages of their career, considering all media and genres suitable for both interior and exterior display. Artwork must be durable, permanent, low-maintenance, and compliant with ADA guidelines upon installation.
Artwork will be purchased for publicly accessible buildings throughout New Mexico, including amphitheaters, animal shelters, community centers, courthouses, educational institutions, fire stations, healthcare facilities, recreation complexes, rest areas, and senior centers. The project budget is $50,000-$200,000, with a $50,000 minimum per artwork. The price is all-inclusive of materials, labor, insurance, taxes, commissions, fees, delivery, installation, travel, museum quality framing, security hangers, pedestals, plaques, and documentation. Artists are responsible for coordinating and paying installation costs. Large exterior three-dimensional work prices should include site preparation and foundation.
A Submission Review Committee will score applications based on professional qualifications, artistic ability, craftsmanship, and ability to produce high-quality work. Regional Buying Committees will select artwork for purchase and permanent display. Multiple selection meetings will be held statewide from October 2023 through October 2024. Applicants must submit up to three images of previously completed work available for purchase in the $50,000-$200,000 range, an artist statement (2000 character limit), and a current resume or curriculum vitae. The project is open to artists residing in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah, and to galleries located in these states. Submission deadline is September 29, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Contact: Olivia Amaya Ortiz, 505-827-6490, [email protected].
