About This Call

The Art in Public Places Program of New Mexico Arts and the Local Selection Committee at New Mexico State University and New Mexico Department of Agriculture seek to purchase 1 to 3 exterior artworks ready for purchase. These artworks will be permanently installed outdoors in an uncovered area of the NMDA courtyard at the NMSU campus in Las Cruces, NM.

Artworks should be contemporary in nature and explore ideas centered around agriculture, including: history of agriculture, the importance of agriculture to New Mexicans and society, the positive impacts of the agriculture industry, and how the agricultural industry touches our lives daily. Artwork media and construction can be traditional, mixed, or experimental, but must be constructed from materials that can survive permanent outdoor installation. Artworks must withstand high winds and the harsh New Mexico desert climate, fit within the allotted installation area, and cannot incorporate water features or materials not conducive to outdoor conditions. The project must be durable, low maintenance, permanent, safe for children and adults, and meet all applicable code requirements including ADA compliance. At the selected artist's expense, artwork may require certification by licensed engineers and review by a professional fine art conservator.

Up to $335,000 will be utilized to purchase 1-3 exterior artworks. When pricing artwork, include all associated costs: artwork prep, delivery, travel, permanent installation, materials, equipment, labor, permits, engineering documents, insurance, taxes, shipping, identification plaque, and documentation. Work sample requirements: 1-10 images, 0-6 videos, 1-16 total samples. The submission deadline is June 24, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Notification of selections will occur in July 2022. Questions should be directed to Meredith Doborski, Public Art Program Director, at 505-396-0326 or [email protected].
