About This Call

The Art in Public Places program is seeking light-based art projects for a one-day event celebrating the re-opening of DeVargas Park in Santa Fe on June 15, 2013. The event will run from mid-afternoon until approximately 10pm. Proposed artworks should be visible in fading daylight and cannot require total darkness to work. Artwork may include an accompanying sound element or be strictly visual, and may be interactive or non-interactive. Hi-Speed Wi-Fi will be available in the park. No artwork requiring concrete pads or other environmentally damaging approaches will be considered. Media must be low maintenance, safe for both children and adults, ADA compliant, and not leave a permanent mark on the environment when removed. At the agreed upon time of removal, the artist will return the installation site to its original condition.

DeVargas Park is located in El Parque del Rio, a linear park that follows the Santa Fe River through downtown Santa Fe. The park is currently being refurbished with new sidewalks, innovative landscaping, shading devices, new trees including a fruit orchard, and infrastructure to manage storm water. The June 15th event will include demonstrations, music, a fashion show, food trucks, and interactive art projects.

Eligibility is open to all artists or artist teams who are legal residents of New Mexico. Artists in all stages of their careers are encouraged to apply. Project funding of $1,000–$5,000 is available per project and includes all fees and expenses associated with the project such as materials, equipment, labor, permits, engineering documents, insurance, taxes, travel, installation, shipping, identification plaque, and documentation. Artists are responsible for providing their own medical or workers' compensation insurance. Submissions must include a detailed project proposal, current resume or curriculum vitae, and ten images of project proposal or previously completed work with complete citations. The submission deadline is May 5, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Selected artists will be notified by May 10, 2013. Artwork must be installed by June 15, 2013 and removed by June 16, 2013 or later.
