About This Call
The Art in Public Places program enriches New Mexico's public spaces through an innovative and diverse public art collection. The Acclaimed Artists Series seeks to diversify the State's public art collection by purchasing the highest caliber existing artwork from distinguished artists in the region. All media in all genres, suitable for both interior and exterior display, will be considered for purchase. Artwork must be durable, permanent, low-maintenance and in compliance with ADA guidelines upon installation.
This project is open to professional artists who are residents of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Texas and Oklahoma. Galleries located in these states may submit qualifications on behalf of artists represented by the gallery, regardless of residency. Finalists may be required to submit verifiable proof of residency prior to being awarded a purchase contract. Artists must have a minimum of ten years of professional work experience with an established and diverse exhibition record and a developed and consistent style.
Purchase contracts will be limited to a $20,000 minimum for each piece or series (maximum $40,000, all inclusive). A series may consist of no more than 3 pieces. The price submitted is all inclusive of materials, labor, insurance, taxes, commissions, fees, delivery, travel, museum quality framing under Plexiglas, security-hanger installation, pedestal for small and large 3-dimensional works, Plexiglas bonnet for small 3-dimensional works, project plaque, and written and professional photographic documentation. Artwork will be purchased for publicly accessible buildings throughout New Mexico including amphitheaters, animal shelters, community centers, courthouses, educational institutions, fire stations, healthcare facilities, recreation complexes, rest areas, and senior centers.
Submissions must include: a succinct artist's statement (5000 character limit), a current resume or curriculum vitae, and three images of previously completed work created in the past ten years that is currently available for purchase. Complete image citations must include title, media, dimensions, price, year of completion, description, and if applicable, edition size and print/casting number. Only one application per artist will be considered. A Submission Review Committee will score applications, and Regional Buying Committees will select artwork for their facilities. Artwork included in the final pool is not a guarantee of sale. If a submitted piece is sold through another venue, the artist or representative must notify New Mexico Arts immediately. Artwork installed must be the same piece selected; substitutions and price fluctuations will not be allowed after the submission deadline. Payment will be made upon completion of contract terms and a site visit verification.
