About This Call
Projecting L.A. 2024 is a large-scale photography exhibition taking place on April 27, 2024, in a football-field-sized parking lot in Chinatown, Downtown Los Angeles. Selected photographers will have their bodies of work edited into a video presentation with music and projected 80 feet wide and three stories high in front of a live audience. Following the premiere event, the L.A. Public Libraries will screen this presentation once a month for one year across various Los Angeles Public Library branches, with five photographers in attendance at each screening to discuss their work with the public.
Photographers may submit in one or more of three categories: Street Photography, Documentary Projects, or News. Each submission requires a $20 entry fee. Street Photography submissions must include 15-20 images taken within Los Angeles County over the past 10 years, with captions indicating location and year, a brief bio (maximum 200 words), and optional artist statement. Documentary submissions should include 15-20 images of documentary projects or picture stories involving individuals or communities within Los Angeles County over the past 10 years, with captions identifying who, what, where, and when, a brief bio (maximum 200 words), and optional project description (maximum 250 words). News submissions must include 15-20 images of current news within Los Angeles County from 2022-2023, with captions identifying who, what, where, and when, and a brief bio (maximum 200 words).
Approximately 30 photographers will be selected. Selected photographers receive participation in the premiere event and monthly library screenings, a free online profile page on www.thelaproject.org, a page in the event catalog distributed at all screenings, and potential press coverage. Street Photography magazine will feature a story on all participating photographers, with one photographer receiving additional individual coverage. The application deadline is November 16, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. MST. Emerging and professional photographers are eligible to apply.
