Project Spaces: Bus Wrap

The Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation's Project Spaces initiative, in partnership with the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART), requests qualifications from artists and artist-teams to create a unique design to wrap around a large transit bus. The design concept must be suitable for all ages. One or more professional artists will be selected to present a proposal for a complete bus wrap. A template for a DART bus wrap will be provided, and assistance transcribing finished artwork into appropriate printing formats is available. The wrap will be used throughout DART's service area for approximately one year.

Selected artists will receive $500 to develop proposals, with the selected proposal receiving an additional $1,000 for production. Printing and installation of the wrap will be provided as part of this project. The call is open to all professional artists and artist-teams, 18 and older, residing in the United States. Artists residing in Iowa with previous experience in public art projects are encouraged to apply.

Submission materials must include an artist statement of interest, a two-page resume outlining professional accomplishments with three professional references, and a minimum of six to maximum of eight images of past work (JPEG files) illustrating two to four completed site-specific public art projects. An image identification list providing project title, location, date completed, media, dimensions, budget, commissioning agency, project partners, and brief project description is also required. Proposals will be reviewed based on artistic excellence, previous experience, and perceived ability to complete the design on time and within budget. All materials must be submitted through CaFE.
