About This Call
Progress & Possibilities 2010 is an online juried exhibition of the International Polymer Clay Association open to IPCA members eighteen years or older. The competition encourages and acknowledges promise, innovation, and individuality in polymer clay work at all stages of professional development, and aims to advance public awareness of and appreciation for the fine craft of polymer clay.
All work must be at least half polymer clay (in surface area, not volume), completed after September 1, 2008, and not previously published or submitted to another exhibition or competition. The concept, design, and execution must be solely that of the applicant. Each applicant submits an artist's statement (approximately 200 words or less than 1000 characters) and one digital image each of up to three pieces. Each image must include the artist's name, title, dimensions, year produced, and materials used. Applicants must retain a high-resolution image (300dpi or higher TIFF or jpg file) of each submission for print media use.
Artists must declare their level of professional development: Beginner (less than five years experience with polymer clay, no national or international competition entries, hobby-focused); Intermediate (five or more years experience and/or technical proficiency in other crafts, may have entered previous competitions but not been a finalist in prestigious ones); or Professional (earn significant livelihood from teaching, writing about, or selling polymer clay work; top-level artists with major awards). Submissions are accepted in three categories: Art Jewelry (wearable art), Functional Objects (items that perform a function), and Sculptural Objects (decorative items). All entries from one artist must be submitted at the same level. Entry fee is $30 per artist (nonrefundable). All submissions will be available for IPCA members to view online, and members will vote for their favorite pieces with Members' Choice winners announced for each category/level combination.
