About This Call
PrintMatters announces NEXT 2017, a contemporary print biennial held during PRINTHOUSTON 2017. The organization seeks innovative and challenging works that transcend process and materials and present printmaking as a versatile and adaptable medium. Artists from North America (Canada, Mexico, and the United States) are invited to submit works that push the boundaries of techniques and materials, as well as those using traditional techniques to speak to contemporary audiences. Eligible media include lithography, relief, intaglio, monotype, serigraphy, installations, ceramics, sculpture, and artists' books, provided the primary technique(s) used are listed above.
Eligibility is open to all artists 18 years and older residing in North America. Works must be original, not exceed 96 inches in any direction, be completed in the last two years, and not previously shown in Houston. No student work, reproductions, or photography are accepted. The entry fee is $45 for up to 3 entries. Selected artists will be notified by March 31 and must submit a short biography, resume, and 300 dpi images by April 3. Cash awards are given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. The exhibition will be held at Nicole Longnecker Gallery, located at 2625 Colquitt Street in Houston's Gallery Row. The opening reception is May 20, with the exhibition running through July 1. All work must be for sale, with the gallery taking a 50% commission. Artists are responsible for shipping costs and must include a prepaid return shipping label.
