About This Call
PrintMatters announces NEXT 2014, a contemporary print biennial held during PRINTHOUSTON 2014. The organization seeks innovative and challenging works that transcend process and materials and present printmaking as a versatile and adaptable medium. Artists pushing the boundaries of techniques and materials are invited to apply, as are those using traditional techniques to speak to contemporary audiences. Beyond lithography, relief, intaglio, monotype, and serigraphy, the call welcomes artists using printmaking to create installations, ceramics, sculpture, and artists' books. The primary technique(s) used must be listed above, and work must be of excellent quality.
Eligibility is open to all U.S. artists 18 years and older. Works must be original, not exceed 96 inches in any direction, be completed in the last two years, and not previously shown in Houston. No student work, reproductions, or photography. Collaborative work should be entered under only one artist's name. The entry fee is $45 for up to 3 entries. Selected artists will be required to submit a short biography, resume, and 300 dpi images by April 28.
The exhibition will be held at Nicole Longnecker Gallery, located at 2625 Colquitt Street in Houston's Gallery Row. All work must be presented professionally and ready to hang: framed with white or off-white mats (if applicable), with wire hangers or d-rings, and Plexiglass. Exceptions include oversized works, installations, 3-D, video, and artists' books. Shipped works are due by May 30; hand-delivery is available May 27–30, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. All work must be for sale; the gallery commission is 50% of the selling price. Awards include cash prizes and the opportunity to participate in a future group exhibit. The juror is Yizhak Elyashiv, an artist and printmaker at the Rhode Island School of Design.
