About This Call

Stapleton announces a public art opportunity with a commission of $100,000 for a permanent artwork at Prickly Plume Park, a triangular park located at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Moline Street in the Bluff Lake neighborhood of Stapleton, Denver.

The Project Selection Committee seeks applications from Colorado artists who want to expand their career to include public art, have not yet received a public art commission over $10,000, or have completed temporary artworks in the public realm but want to create permanent installations. Artists are encouraged to team up with a fabricator/installer or other related trade. The committee will conduct a pre-application workshop and provide extra assistance to artist teams developing their applications. Up to five teams will be selected as semifinalists and receive a design fee to assist in preparing full proposals.

The artwork should be a dynamic three-dimensional piece that is engaging to all ages and accessible to persons with disabilities. Artwork may be interactive and should be attentive to how people will use the space. Materials must be sustainable and easy to maintain, suitable to the Denver environment, and able to withstand intense sun, snow, wind, and temperature extremes. The artwork must be durable, require minimal and low-cost maintenance, not interfere with the park's function or use of walkways and trails, and comply with City and County of Denver rules and regulations. Electrical power may not be available depending on site selection, as Stapleton has adopted a "dark skies" initiative.

Applications must be submitted via CaFÉ at www.callforentry.org by midnight MDT on Monday, June 11, 2018. Each application must include a current resume for each team member, six digital images of relevant work (four showing the artist's past work and two showing the team member's work), and an Artist's Statement not exceeding 1,000 characters describing the artist's/team's approach to the project. All team members must be legally residing in the United States, and this opportunity is open only to artists currently residing in Colorado.
