About This Call
This commission opportunity with the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library seeks an artist or artist team to create a unique and permanent outdoor public art installation at the Price Hill public library branch located at 970 Purcell Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45205. The selection process includes a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) and Request for Proposal (RFP) where applicants present ideas and visions for outdoor public sculpture. Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library and ArtWorks will lead the selection process, reviewing submissions and conducting interviews with selected artists before inviting finalists to move forward in the design phase.
The artwork should be welcoming, inclusive, intriguing, and engaging to individuals of all abilities and diverse, multi-generational audiences. The piece must be durable and easy to maintain, made from materials suitable for permanent outdoor installation. Artwork may not impede sidewalks or right-of-ways and must remain accessible to pedestrians. The piece should not be climbable and should not require electricity. Artists should conduct independent research on Price Hill's history and community, considering keywords such as inclusive, equitable, accessible, iconic, intrigue, delight, whimsy, next generation, minds of all kinds, community roots, and interactive/engaging.
The budget for the artwork is $40,000, covering design fee, materials, labor, fabrication, shipping, and installation costs. The selected artist(s) will submit a detailed budget following selection and work closely with the Library to approve all costs before fabrication begins. Applicants must submit 3-8 images of past work. The entry deadline is October 23, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Selected artist(s) may be asked to attend an in-person or remote interview with the selection committee. Installation is scheduled for May 31, 2023.
