About This Call

Price City is seeking qualified artists or artistic teams to create a gateway archway feature at the 100 North Overpass, a main entrance into the city from state highway 6. The archway will serve both vehicular and pedestrian traffic and is intended to create a unique project that draws people to Price for generations to come.

Two possible sites are available for the archway. The first location is on street level near Big O Tires and JB's Restaurant, requiring an arch span of 96 feet and located close to the highway exit and east of the Price River walking trail. The second location is closer to the bridge with approximately the same arch span, about one quarter mile from the highway exit on the east side of the intersection of 100 N and Carbonville Road. The archway must meet Utah Department of Transportation minimum clearance requirements. The committee welcomes artwork in the shape of an eagle to represent the area's large eagle population and Utah State University Eastern's mascot. The archway should include "Price, Utah" and "Home of Utah State University Eastern" or similar text. The design should be interesting yet timeless, constructed of structural steel with either two or four posts. Enhancement lighting is encouraged but should not flash or scroll. Engineer-signed plans are the artist's responsibility. The proposed budget is $200,000, covering the artist's commission, materials, footings, labor, and engineering.

Submittal requirements include a statement of interest, up to three preliminary design concepts, background information on the artist or team (no more than 2 pages), up to ten images of previously completed artwork including at least two public art installations with project details, and contact information for three professional references. If selected in the first round, artists will be asked to provide a project plan including budget and coordination with an engineer, architect, and fabricator, with a $500 budget for this phase. The selection schedule runs from April 19, 2019 (call release) through June 26, 2019 (final artist selection by City Council). Eligibility is regional, limited to Utah artists.
