About This Call
Mud Mesa is an artist-run ceramic studio in Taos, New Mexico that supports mid-career artists through residencies and workshops. The home and studio were originally built by Ken Price (1935-2012) and his wife, Happy Price.
The Price Artist-in-Residence (PAiR) program is a 6-week residency open to mid-career artists working in the ceramic field. The residency occurs twice a year with sessions in winter (February 6 - March 20, 2022) and fall (October 2 - November 11, 2022). The resident will receive a $1,000 stipend at the start of their session and will live and work in Price's former home and studio. The resident has 24/7 access to the studio and will have access to a fully equipped shared kitchen. Meals are not provided. The resident is responsible for their own travel expenses and should bring tools and materials. Mud Mesa will arrange for curators or other art professionals from Taos and beyond to visit with the resident if interested.
Applicants must be mid-career artists working with clay, over 21 years old, able to fire electric kilns and be self-sufficient in the studio. Applicants must be self-motivated, focused, respectful, and curious, and should benefit from solitude and a focused rural studio environment. COVID-19 immunization is required. The program cannot accommodate family members, collaborators, or pets. The resident will live in the Price family home with Mud Mesa Executive Director Maggie Harrington, with shared kitchen, living, and dining spaces. Application requirements include artist statement, 5-8 work samples, CV/resume, letter of intent, session preference, and two professional or personal references. The entry fee is $15.00.
