Present from the Past

Present from the Past is an open juried national exhibition at The VETS Gallery in Providence, Rhode Island, running December 7, 2018 through March 2, 2019. The exhibition seeks art connected to time and space, mental or tangible, in both literal and metaphoric sense. Themes include gifts, heirlooms, progress, old and new, transitory, decay, births, rebirths, revolutions, acceptance, development, spatial connections, upgrades, rejuvenations, remodeling, recycling, repurposing, steampunk, assemblage, reconstructions and impermanence. The exhibition highlights humankind striving for evolution, and the mind's penchant for nostalgia, comparison, delusion and illusion.

Juror Mary Dondero is an interdisciplinary artist and tenured faculty member in the Department of Art and Art History at Bridgewater State University. Awards include 1st Prize $300, 2nd Prize $200, and 3rd Prize $100. The reception and awards ceremony is Thursday, December 13, 2018, 5:30-8pm EDT.

Eligibility: Any artist 18 years or older. All 2D and 3D media eligible; no video entries accepted. Artwork previously exhibited with ALRI is not permitted. All work must be original and exhibition ready. Maximum size 48" wide by 72" high including frame. 3D work footprint must be 24" x 24" or less with 35 lb weight limit. Entry fee is $30 for up to 3 artworks ($25 for ALRI members). Notification of acceptance by November 2, 2018. In-person delivery December 3-4, 2018; pickup March 4-5, 2019. Shipped work must arrive by November 30, 2018. Sales encouraged with 40% commission to ALRI; artists paid within 30 days after exhibition closes.
