About This Call
The Precipice Fund, administered by the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art as part of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts' Regional Re-granting Program, awards grants to unincorporated visual art collectives, alternative spaces, and collaborative projects in Portland, Oregon. The fund supports both new and existing projects emblematic of Portland's independent art scene. In Round One, the Precipice Fund will award between 15 and 20 grants of $500 to $5,000 each.
Eligibility: Proposals must be submitted by independent, non-incorporated entities and are only open to residents of Portland, Oregon. Projects must be collaborative and carried out by a collective or group of individuals, though an individual artist's project may be eligible if it is highly participatory and engages multiple people or publics. The lead applicant must reside in Portland. The finished project must be publicly accessible, with public presentation taking place in Portland between June 1 and December 1, 2014. Projects rooted in or strongly related to visual art are eligible; works in performance or media are eligible if visual art is a core component.
The Precipice Fund is particularly interested in projects that are innovative, experimental, and ambitious; artist-run or artist-driven; generate opportunities for other local artists; challenge established notions of practice and presentation; are presented in unconventional sites; seek to develop Portland's art audiences; are accessible to the public; and contribute to the critical and creative depth of Portland's arts community. Applications must be submitted online via www.callforentry.org. If awarded funding, artists are responsible for prompt communication with grant administrators, financial accountability, submission of a project summary by the end of the grant period, and periodic contribution of written summaries and images for the Precipice Fund website and publicity outlets.
