About This Call
The City of Apache Junction is seeking qualifications from artists and artist teams to be included in a Pre-qualified Artist Roster for upcoming public art opportunities across the municipality. This roster will serve as a resource for selecting artists for a variety of public projects including permanent artworks, temporary installations, integrated architectural projects, and community engagement initiatives over the next three (3) years. Individual contracts will be issued for each project, with budgets varying depending on the project.
The Artist Roster aims to streamline the artist selection process for public art projects, build relationships with a diverse pool of skilled artists, ensure a transparent and equitable selection process, and support integration of public art in municipal planning and placemaking. Artists on the roster may be considered for permanent artworks for public buildings, parks, and civic spaces; temporary installations; artist-led community engagement activities and workshops; functional or integrated design elements such as bike racks, benches, and lighting; and murals and street art initiatives.
Applicants must submit a statement of interest describing their artistic practice and experience with public art, a current resume including relevant public art experience and exhibitions, 6-10 images of past work (JPEG/JPG format, 1,200 pixels minimum on longest side, under 5 MB, sRGB color profile), with an accompanying image description list detailing title, year, medium, dimensions, location, budget, and commissioning body, and contact information for at least three professional and/or academic references familiar with work from the past five years. Eligibility requires applicants to be at least 18 years old, residing in Arizona, and legally able to work in the United States. Applicants must have at least two years of public art experience with municipalities and organizations including local, state, and federal government entities, public/private educational institutions, non-profits, and corporate entities. Applicants cannot be currently employed by the city, a member of the Public Art Commission, or an immediate family member of city employees or Public Art Commission members. The roster will remain active for three years. Entry deadline is January 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. MST.
