Pray the Gay Away

Not Shockboxx invites artists to submit work for Pray the Gay Away, a three-week exhibition taking aim at the absurdity and hypocrisy of so-called "conversion therapy" and other anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric. The exhibition seeks works that are loud, satirical, and unashamed — pieces that use wit, sarcasm, and fearless honesty to confront homophobia and celebrate queer identity. Artists are encouraged to submit work that pokes fun at the "pray the gay away" myth and similar anti-LGBTQ+ ideologies, calls out religious hypocrisy and political fear-mongering, elevates queer joy and resilience, or uses humor and irony as a weapon against hate.

Submissions are open to all artists regardless of location, identity, or background. Accepted media includes 2D, 3D, mixed media, photography, digital works, and live performance (limited to two scheduled windows during the show). Works must not exceed 10ft x 10ft and must fit through a small garage door opening. All work must be original and available for display during the full run of the exhibit. Submit up to 5 pieces with title, medium, dimensions, year completed, high-resolution images (JPEG, PNG, or PDF), and a short artist statement (100–200 words) explaining how the work fits the theme. Entry fee is $25, plus $5 for each additional image beyond the first. Jury dates: 9/6/25 - 9/12/25.
