About This Call

With support from the National Endowment for the Arts, Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, WA provides a month-long residency for professional artists to explore new materials and processes. The residency runs September 4 – October 4, 2018 and includes generous access to Pratt's printmaking and painting/drawing studios, with options to explore other disciplines such as blacksmithing, metal sculpture, stone sculpture, mold making, jewelry/metalsmithing, wood-working, and glass arts (subject to availability). Access to printmaking and painting/drawing studios is available daily from 9AM to 10PM throughout the residency.

The residency includes a $2,000 stipend, a $500 credit for tuition and fees for classes and studio access outside of printmaking/painting/drawing, reimbursement for travel to and from Seattle, housing within the city for the duration of the residency, and reimbursement up to $300 for local transportation. Pratt will also provide a venue, reception, and publicity for a public lecture and in-studio exhibition.

The program is open to professional working visual artists aged 18 years and older. Board, advisory board, and staff members of Pratt Fine Arts Center, as well as Pratt instructors, are not eligible. Applications will be reviewed by a jury of Pratt staff, artists, and arts professionals. The residency will be awarded to the applicant for whom the residency stands to have the greatest impact, with specific assessment of artistic intent, potential for professional and creative advancement, and fit of the proposed project with available resources. A winner will be announced within two weeks of the May 18, 2018 deadline. The $15 entry fee supports administrative costs. Applicants must submit a completed application form with project proposal and responses to specific questions, a current resume or curriculum vitae (no larger than 2MB), and six JPEG images of current work (no larger than 5MB each). Successful completion of a studio orientation and access test are required to use Pratt's facilities independently.
