About This Call
In partnership with the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority (AADDA) and the Ann Arbor Public Art Commission (AAPAC), The Arts Alliance is managing PowerArt!, a three-phased project to install vinyl printed art reproductions from local artists on traffic boxes in downtown Ann Arbor. Phase 2 will wrap 17 of the remaining traffic boxes. The project aims to transform these boxes from spaces used for flyers or graffiti into displays of local artists' work. The vinyl material is resistant to graffiti and can be replaced if damaged.
Applications are accepted through April 4, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Artists must be individuals, organizations, or businesses residing or working in Washtenaw County. Submissions should be complete, partial, or modified images of already-created works or works created specifically for PowerArt!. Modified work must be from the artist's own original work. Work must be appropriate for viewing by all ages. Artists may submit up to six digital images of 2-dimensional works. Images must be high resolution (1-5MB) JPEG files with dimensions comparable to 5.9' x 11.75' (HxW). Submissions must include an artist/organization statement, work descriptions, work sizes and names, and collaborator information if applicable. The entry fee is $10 ($5 for students with coupon code STUDENT).
A jury representing a cross-section of the community will select 20 works total, with 13 slated for installation. The remaining 7 selected works will be published in an online survey for public voting. Selected artists will receive $1,450 for each work installed. Selected artists must sign a contract granting the Arts Alliance, AADDA, and City of Ann Arbor perpetual license to use the work on the traffic box wrap and in marketing or publications related to the project. The Arts Alliance will contract a vendor to print the artwork onto vinyl and handle installation; artists are not responsible for fabrication, installation, or maintenance. For eligibility questions, contact Allison Buck at [email protected] or 734.213.2733.
