PowerArt! Phase 1

PowerArt! is a three-phased project to transform traffic boxes around downtown Ann Arbor into canvases displaying local artists' work. The project is managed by The Arts Alliance in partnership with the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority (AADDA) and the Ann Arbor Public Art Commission (AAPAC).

The pilot phase will feature eight traffic box installations. A jury of nine community members will select six works for installation, and the public will vote online to select the remaining two works. Selected artists will receive $1,450 for each work selected and installed. Selected works will be licensed from the artist in perpetuity for use on traffic boxes and in marketing or publications related to the PowerArt! project.

Eligibility: Applicants must be individuals, organizations, or businesses residing in Washtenaw County. Submissions must include a high-resolution digital image (up to 5MB, JPEG format) of new or existing artwork of any medium. Works may be complete, partial, or modified images of already-created works, provided modified work is from the applicant's own original work. Artwork must be appropriate for viewing by individuals of all ages. Up to three different pieces or three images of the same work may be submitted. An artist/organization statement, work description, size, and name must be included. Entry fee is $10 ($5 for students with coupon code STUDENT).
