About This Call
PowerArt! 2018 is a public art project that wraps traffic signal boxes in downtown Ann Arbor, Michigan with vinyl-printed replicas of local artists' work. The 2018 project will add eight installations.
The project is open to Washtenaw County-based artists of all ages, including individual artists and groups. Artists must be currently living in Washtenaw County, have previously lived there for four or more years, or be currently working or attending school there. Submissions must be two-dimensional artwork suitable at a 2:1 (width x height) ratio that can be enlarged up to 144" x 72" or larger without losing detail. Artwork must be original, created by the artist(s), and suitable for public display. Entries will be critiqued on artistic merit, originality, and appropriateness for public display. The entry fee is $10.00, and applicants must submit 1-4 images in 200 dpi format.
Selected artists will receive a $1,450 stipend paid in two installments: the first upon signed contract and fabrication vendor approval, and the second after successful installation. Artists will also have their work exhibited on a power box in downtown Ann Arbor with their name and artwork title on a banner. Selected artists will be included in the PowerArt! 2018 promotional campaign via The Arts Alliance's eNewsletter (4,100+ subscribers), Facebook (1,700+ likes/followers), Twitter (2,300+ followers), and website. The jury will review submissions and choose the top 12 selections by August 24, 2018. The public will then vote online from August 24 to September 3, 2018 to select the final eight artworks for installation. Selected artists will be notified the week of September 3, 2018 and must deliver high-resolution digital artwork in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe PDF, TIFF, or EPS format by September 10, 2018. Fabrication and installation will take place September 11-30, 2018.
