About This Call

The Power Plant Grant program provides opportunities for Indianapolis area artists to make and share experimental work and ideas in public spaces around the region. Artists, collectives, collaborative groups, partnerships, and artist-run spaces residing within the Indianapolis metropolitan area are eligible to apply. Awarded artists should remain resident for the entire period of their award. The program is not available for non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations or for current or recently graduated students.

Power Plant Grants fund projects that happen in unexpected places, are visually engaging and involve any media or practices, challenge mainstream methods of thinking or presenting, add energy and diversity to the arts in the region, and encourage the development of new kinds of audiences. Proposed work may address either other regional artists in appropriate venues or the general public through carefully chosen public venues. Proposals that bridge geographic or cultural communities are strongly encouraged.

The 2022-23 program will provide $60,000 in total grants. Full project awards are cash grants of up to $10,000 each to support the creation and presentation of new work with a strong visual component. Research and development awards are $2,000 each to support research and development for ambitious new projects. The majority of full project grants are awarded at or near the $6-10,000 level. Supported projects may include visual art, performance, film screenings, video, new media, writing, public programming, social practice and interdisciplinary projects. All work should include a compelling visual component. Applicants will be considered for both levels of funding unless they elect not to be considered for the smaller award.

Applications close July 10, 2022 at 11:59 PM CST. Selected applicants will be notified by August 1, 2022 and must present their proposals to the Selection Panel on August 17, 2022 in Indianapolis (9 AM-3 PM). Award recipients will be notified on August 19, 2022. Work sample requirements include a minimum of 5 and maximum of 10 images, up to 2 audio files, and up to 2 video files (5-14 total samples). Applications must include an artist statement and biography, social media links, project summary, timeline, budget, and work samples.
