About This Call
Visual artists in Indianapolis struggling due to COVID-19 can apply for the Power Plant Emergency Grant program. The program will distribute $60,000 by providing 60 artists $1,000 each over six weeks starting November 2. The grant is facilitated by Big Car Collaborative, a nonprofit arts organization based in the Garfield Park neighborhood of Indianapolis, with funding from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
Starting November 2 through December 7, 10 visual artists per week will be selected to receive $1,000 based on a lottery system weighted to prioritize applicants with the greatest need. Funds are for individual artists only; nonprofit entities, full-time students, and artist teams are not eligible. Power Plant grants support visual and multidisciplinary artists who create original work in painting, drawing, sculpture, book art, ceramics, fiber, printmaking, digital/media works, film, video, photography, performance art, sound art, social practice, and/or hybrid or interdisciplinary practices. To be entered for the first drawing, applications must be completed by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, October 23. Artists can apply after October 23 to be eligible for future drawings, and once an application is submitted, the artist remains in the pool until all funds are distributed. Work sample requirements include a minimum of 5 and maximum of 10 images, with up to 3 audio files and 3 video files permitted (5-13 total samples). Big Car will offer Zoom and Facebook Live interactive sessions on October 20 and November 3 at 6:30 p.m. to explain program details and answer questions.
