About This Call
WMATA Art in Transit Program is working with the City of Alexandria Public Art Program to select site-specific public artworks for the future Potomac Yard Metrorail Station on the Yellow and Blue Lines. The selected artworks will be the first in a US Transit system to introduce biophilic elements and provide credit towards LEED Transit accreditation of a Metrorail station. The project is fully funded by the City of Alexandria, Virginia.
This is a Two-Phase Selection Process. Phase 1 requires artists and artist teams to submit qualifications. An Art Selection Panel led by WMATA and the City of Alexandria will select at least three (3) artists or artist teams, each receiving a $2,000 design fee to prepare and submit a site-specific artwork proposal. Phase 2 invites the selected artists to submit detailed site-specific proposals including design, estimated costs for engineering and architectural services, and fabrication and installation schedules. The maximum budget for the entire project is $500,000, inclusive of design (artist fee included), construction, installation, and miscellaneous costs.
Work sample requirements: 10-15 images and 0-5 videos (10-20 total samples). The Potomac Yard Metrorail Station is an at-grade station with side platforms located approximately midway between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Braddock Road Stations. The station will include an entry pavilion and pedestrian bridges connecting to neighborhoods west of the rail corridor.
