PORTRAITURE 2019

Portraiture is an endless source of inspiration for artists. Specto Art Space is seeking work that explores innovation on the portrait, commentary through portraiture, the narrative capacity of portraiture, and the exploration of self, art, culture, society, environment, values, or other subjects through portraiture. Self-portraiture will not be accepted for this call; a separate SELF PORTRAIT 2019 exhibition is available.

Submissions must include 3-10 images. Entry fee is $12 for 3 images, with an additional $6 per image beyond 3. Accepted media includes photography, digital art, graphic design, illustration, videography, gifs, new media, painting, drawing, printmaking, and anything that can be printed or displayed digitally. The deadline is May 19th, 2019. Artists will be notified of acceptance 10-14 days after the deadline and will have 7 days to provide print-ready files. The exhibition is scheduled for September 2019.

Specto prints all exhibition works for free and creates engaging, innovative displays. Works are offered for sale through Specto's website and gallery space, with Specto retaining a 35% commission on all sales. Awards include Best in Show (print included for sale at Superfine! DC 2019) and Honorable Mention ($100, 2 awarded). Artists retain copyright of their work. After each show, all works are cataloged in an archive to promote artists beyond the exhibition dates.
