About This Call

Portland2014 Biennial of Contemporary Art is a major survey of Oregon visual artists who are defining and advancing the state's contemporary arts landscape. The exhibition, staged citywide in Portland, will take place March-May 2014 and will be supported by artist and curator talks, symposia and a catalog. The biennial platform may include visual arts and new media, as well as performance-based works. For included artists, Portland2014 offers opportunities for critical response from media and peers, new audiences and patrons. Disjecta's 6,000 square foot space will provide the key venue, with the exhibition expanding to partnering satellite spaces. Each selected artist will receive a stipend, which may be used to create new work for the exhibition.

To be eligible, artists must have lived in Oregon as a primary residence for the last two years. All Oregon artists are invited to apply. Submissions must include: a two-page resume as a PDF; exactly 10 images of recent work as JPEG files, plus up to 2 audio files and 2 video files; an Image Identification List as a PDF providing project title, date completed, media, dimensions, project partners if any, and brief description; and an Artist Statement of Interest of 2000 or fewer characters describing current practice and/or interest in the Biennial. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. All materials must be submitted through CaFE (www.callforentry.org) by 11:59 PM MDT on August 1, 2013.

Amanda Hunt, a graduate of the Curatorial Practice Program at California College of the Arts in San Francisco and currently a curator at LAXART in Los Angeles, was selected as curator for Portland2014. This marks the first time the Biennial curator will be from outside the region. Portland2014 is supported in part by The Ford Family Foundation and the Kinsman Foundation.
