About This Call
Portland Open Studios is a juried studio tour of approximately 100 artists in the Portland metro area, providing an opportunity for artists to open their studios to the public. The event is an important and anticipated annual arts event that attracts visitors from the community and beyond.
Participants must be residents of Clackamas, Multnomah, or Washington Counties and open their studios during all hours of both event weekends (October 9-10 and 16-17, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Artists must demonstrate their working methods and include an educational element such as documentation of methods or demonstrations of technical and creative processes. A studio is defined as any workspace the artist is permitted to open to the public where they can demonstrate their working methods, including living rooms and garages. The opportunity is open to all visual media except film.
Three jurors from Portland's arts community will score submitted artwork images, with combined scores determining acceptance. No more than 65% of total participants may be previous participants. The entry fee is $30, with a participation fee of $250 collected upon acceptance. Artists must submit 3 JPEG images (minimum 1920 pixels on longest side, 72 ppi, 5 MB maximum). The Kimberly Gales Emerging Artist Scholarship is available for artists ages 20-30, offering a waived participation fee and stipend. Benefits include an online tour guide listing, dedicated website page with three images and artist statement, minimum two free workshops, access to free monthly professional development webinars, and connection with other participating artists.
